Peg Hemmer, MSW, LISW-S

Peg received a Master of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University, graduated from Capital University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and from Columbus State Community College with a major in Mental Health/Chemical Dependency/Mental Retardation and a minor in Sport and Fitness Management. 

 
She has experience as an outpatient therapist, specializing in services to children ages 4 and up, adults, women's issues, couple's, and family counseling.  Peg is certified in Rational Hypnotherapy through the National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists.  
 
Peg re-established an Expressive Arts Clinical Program in a children's residential treatment center where she provided services to youth experiencing Depression, Anxiety, Bi-Polar Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome and Mental Retardation  and Developmental Disabilities.
 
Peg has developed and/or presented trainings, educational, and interactive experiences for The Ohio Department of Mental Health, The Ohio Department of Aging, Help Me Grow, The Grove City Police Department, and for other mental health professionals and foster parents. 
 
She is a member of The National Association of Social Workers and The National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, The American Art Therapy Association and  The Buckeye Chapter of the American Art Therapy Association .
 
Peg brings her education, experience and intuition to her private outpatient therapy practice, and particularly her creativity,utilizing cognitive behavioral and solution focused and Gottman couple's therapies along with therapeutic play, sand tray, and expressive arts modalities. 
 
Peg is accepts clients with Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Medical Mutual, Molina, United Behavioral Health and United Healthcare Insurance, ComPsych EAP, Value Options, and CoreCare EAP, as well as client's who are paying out of pocket.

Chris is an Independent Therapist at Heart and Soul Counseling.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor with many years experience providing counseling for children, families, and adults in outpatient settings, through foster care services, residential treatment and community agencies.

 

Chris specializes in providing services to children ages 4 and up, teens, and adult women.

 

Chris has provided services for clients experiencing Depression, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, Developmental Disabilities and other Mental Health challenges.

 

She is well trained in assisting woman, children and teens who have been adversely affected by a variety of types of traumatic experiences.

 

Along with brief therapy approaches, Chris includes play therapy, and particularly, sand tray therapy modalities in her work with children, teens and their families.

 

Chris has developed and presented trainings for parents, foster parents,and other health professionals.

 

Chris has been active in professional play therapy associations and continues ongoing training related to treatment for trauma and on incorporating play and sand tray modalities.

Sherene is an Independent Therapist at Heart and Soul Counseling. Sherene graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Social Work degree, a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration,  and a Master of Social Work degree.  She is licensed in Ohio as an Independent Social Worker -Supervisor and a School Social Worker.

Sherene brings 25 years of experience in providing  therapeutic services to children, families, college age students, and adults in the Columbus Area. 

Among Sherene's accomplishments are the conception and implementation of treatment foster care and day treatment programs.

She  has been an Adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University and is an experienced trainer who has provided trainings for Ohio Family and Children First MR/DD Implementation Task Force, The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, The International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services, the State of Ohio PCSAO Conference, and the Midwest School Social Work Conference on topics such as child welfare, child development, school social work, kindergarten readiness, case planning,  stress management, academic and career development, and in providing services to GLBT students, families and staff.

Sherene utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Play and Expressive Arts therapeutic modalities in her clinical approaches.

Lauren E. Hickson, MSW, LISW

Currently, Lauren is on assignment out of state and will possibly be scheduling client in June 2012.

Lauren received a Master of Social work degree from Wayne State Uniuversity in Detroit, Michigan and gradutated from Oakland University, Rochester Hills, Michigan with a Bachelor degree in Psychology. 

She has experience providing counseling to children, teens, and adults.As an elementary school social worker she provided services to children who experience mental health, emotional and cognitive challenges, including those with ADHD, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome.  

Lauren gained experience providing services to children ages 2 to 17, and their families, at The Children's Center in Detroit. She recognizes the importance of a team approach in her provision of services to children that includes parents, school and community supports.

Lauren has also worked with adults who were receiving rehabilitative services.

Lauren enjoys facilitating group counseling for children, adolescents and adults.

Among other approaches she is experienced in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Behavior Support and uses the Love and Logic model when working with parents to help with parenting issues and managing their child's behavior.  She has presented on topics of bullying and youth suicide prevention.

Lauren is a member of the National Social Work Association of America.

 

 


Pamela Tustian

Pam is an independent contractor that brings her extensive administrative and organizational experience to the assistance of Heart and Soul Counseling's therapists and clients. Pam has a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Human Resources from Ohio University. in Athens, Ohio.  Pam provides oversight for scheduling and client accounts on a part-time contract basis.


Independent Therapists

Independent Therapists are independent contractors at Heart and Soul Counseling.   Independent Therapists adhere to the ethics, values and laws governing their licensure.   Heart and Soul Counseling does not clinically supervise, manage or clinically oversee the clinical cases of clients who are provided services by the Independent Therapists, nor  jeopardize the confidential clinical relationship between the client and the Independent Therapist.
