Q: What is a Rational Hypnotherapy (RHt)?
A: Rational Hypnotherapy (RHt) was developed by Dr. Aldo Pucci and is based on Rational Living Therapy. It is a form of hypnotherapy that incorporates a form of cognitive behavioral therapy, more specifically, rational emotive therapy with hypnosis. The hypnotherapist is Certified by the National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists in Rational Hypnotherapy.
Q: What is hypnosis?
A. Hypnosis is simply a different brain wave state that is characterized by high suggestibility. It will feel familiar and comfortable to you because most people experience it as deep relaxation. Throughout each day we experience altered brain wave states. Our brain wave state changes frequently throughout the day and night. Driving your car is a different brain wave state than reading, which is different than sleeping. Falling asleep in front of the television is a form of hypnosis. When falling asleep in front of the television you are receiving powerful suggestions from advertisers without your analytical mind to filter out what's wanted from what's not.
Q. Can I be made to do something strange or that I don't agree with?
A. NO. During hypnosis you are fully in control. You know exactly where you are the entire time. You can adjust your position, scratch, sneeze or cough. You can open your eyes and bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time. You can still hear sounds around you, like a phone ringing or any other sounds that may signal for your conscious awareness to become active. You can alert yourself and respond to any situation that needs your immediate attention. You remain oriented as to person, place, and time. You can even hold a conversation in hypnosis.
Q. Will I be asleep?
A. Hypnosis is not sleep, although some people get so relaxed that they may fall asleep. The hypnotherapist is skilled in helping you to maintain the brain wave level needed for the highest success.
Q. Can I only address one issue during RHt?
A. Usually a client has a specific issue in mind when seeking hypnotherapy, such as smoking cessation, weight loss, stress or anxiety reduction, eliminating fears or phobias, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, pain control or creative exploration, your stated purpose becomes the therapist's objective for you. With RHt several issues can be addressed during the same session of RHt. Since your mind and body function as an undivided whole your objective is most efficiently accomplished through hypnotherapy because all parts of your mind and body are working together.
Q. What if it doesn't work?
A. There is no failure with Rational Hypnotherapy. There may be a need for adjustment in perspective. This is the mastery that you can accomplish through hypnotherapy and self-hynosis. A CD of your 2nd hypnotherapy session is provided for you to practice self-hypnosis at home to strengthen the effectiveness.
