LISW-S stands for Licensed Independent Social Worker - Supervisor.
LISW-S represents the highest level of social work license issued by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. It requires a Master's degree in social work through an accredited college plus 2 years and 3000 hours of supervised work experience post Master's degree.
A Licensed Independent Social Worker generally acquires and maintains competency in the areas of:
Clinical Social Work
Diagnosis of Mental and Emotional Disorders
Therapy for Mental and Emotional Disorders
Individual, Group, Couples and Family Counseling
Client advocacy
Crisis Intervention
Clinical Supervision
Providing Workshops and Training
A Licensed Independent Social Worker - Supervisor would also be expected to provide training and supervision to those holding lower-level licenses. They are required to obtain continuing education in social work, counseling, ethics, supervision and supervisory ethics, to adhere to social work ethics and to abide by the rules and regulations of their licensing board and Federal and State law.
Social workers assist their clients from a holistic perspective of the client's experiences within their society and social and family environments. They assist clients to deal with daily life issues and transitions through private practice, for profit and not-for-profit agencies.
